Haller Lake Music Series - trombone, euphonium, and piano
Friday, April 20, 7:30 pm
Danny Helseth on trombone & euphonium
Joseph Dougherty on piano
When choosing the euphonium as his primary musical voice, soloist Danny Helseth often remarks that it was the instrument that chose him! This seldom-heard instrument holds a strong position in the world of brass and wind bands, but is almost lost in the rest of the classical music world. Helseth has set out to help change that, with solo recitals and concerto performances throughout the United States, Japan, and England.
As a Doctoral candidate at the University of Washington in brass performance, Helseth has chosen to feature two standard works for trombone in this recital. Then he will explore the musical idea of fantasia in compositions for the euphonium and present various approaches to "Fantasy" from three countries, United States, England and Japan, each offering different musical thoughts to the conversation.
Helseth will be joined by pianist Joseph Dougherty in what will surely be an entertaining and enlightening evening of music.
