The Harvard Trio members, Maryanne Lacaille, clarinet, Mannfried Funk, cello, and pianist Mayumi Tayake, are musicans and teachers in the Seattle area.

Their concert will feature Beethoven's Trio Op.11 in Bb, the Zemlinsky Trio Op.3 in D Minor and Brahms' Trio Op. 114. When Beethoven composed his trio for clarinet, cello and piano the combination was something of a novelty because of the relative newness of the clarinet in chamber music. Zemlinsky was an admirer of Brahms; in 1896  his trio won a prize offered by non-other than Brahms himself. This youthful work is a compositional 'tour de force' with its rich textures and virtuosic writing for all three instruments. The trio by Brahms is probably the world's best loved clarinet trio and one of the most performed trios in the history of chamber music repertoire.  A donation at the door gives you an evening of wonderful music (harvardtrio.com).
