Staff
Pastor Carol was appointed to ministry at Haller Lake UMC in July 2010. Prior to her current appointment, she was minister at Orting United Methodist Church since 1998, her first appointment after being ordained. She attended seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Before becoming a minister, Pastor Carol was on staff at the Renton First United Methodist Church, where she was the Director of Adult Programs for eight years, and was a retreat leader and Spiritual Director. Before her job with the Renton First United Methodist Church, she was the editor of the newspaper for the statewide organization of the United Methodist Church for ten years. Earlier in her career, she worked for Boeing, and for Pacific Northwest Bell.
Pastor Carol is a native Washingtonian, born in Colville. She lived on Mercer Island for 28 years prior to her appointment in Orting, so her place here at Haller Lake is a homecoming of sorts. She is married to Sulmo Mariano. Sulmo was born in Argentina and grew up there, moving to the United States as a young adult. He is an aeronautical engineer for the FAA in Tukwila. They have two grown children. Adrian lives near Washington, D.C., with his wife, Joni, and daughters, Aelliana and Nova, and does math research. Sonia lives in Krakow, Poland, where she attends medical school.
Pastor Carol is excited by the new opportunity to become involved in church and community activities and looks forward to growing in fellowship with the Haller Lake UMC congregation.
One of Pastor Carol's hobbies is music. She had been a member of the Seattle Symphony Chorale for 25 years and dearly loved singing with the Symphony. She has been taking harp lessons since 2000, and she very much enjoys learning and playing.
